Welcome to Eden Lutheran Church!
Serving Christ and Community since 1888
We are an open, inclusive community that cares for one another and for our neighbors. We share in a deep conviction that God’s grace is given freely to all. This grace is at the core of our faith as Lutherans. When Martin Luther and others learned to trust God’s mercy with “a living, daring confidence,” they discovered in their faith the freedom to give generously and act lovingly in all of life’s undertakings with everyone they met.

Eden Lutheran Church was founded in 1888 as the Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Eden Church, an immigrant congregation of Riverside’s Swedish community in the early days of the new city. The original church was located in downtown Riverside on 11th and Orange Streets. Frank Miller, the owner of the Mission Inn, was agent for the original property sale and donated his $100 commission to the church. The congregation grew along with the city, although it maintained its roots and continued offering Swedish language services through the 1930s. The growing congregation purchased a new site on Brockton Avenue in 1945 and began work on the current building with thousands of volunteer hours donated by members of the congregation. The building was dedicated in 1953.

We are a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and we seek to live the ELCA’s motto: “God’s Work, Our Hands.” Some of our ministries at Eden include distributing hygiene packs and food support for people experiencing homelessness and others in need, supporting the food pantries at Lutheran Social Services Riverside and Central City Lutheran Mission in San Bernardino, and the quilts lovingly made by our quilters and donated to Lutheran World Relief and to local organizations in our community.
We welcome you wherever and however you are and invite you to join with us in worship and service. We welcome your ideas, we welcome your questions, we welcome your voice, we welcome you.
